Smart + Strong is looking for a software engineer to join our web development team.
Mission/Purpose:
This position is part of a team responsible for all internal programs that make up the Smart + Strong online operation. This includes, but is not limited to, programming, managing the code base and integrating commercial and open-sourced applications for our content management, ad serving, polls, surveys, personals, blogs, forums, mentor, cool tools, and newsletter systems.
The individual is responsible for managing their time, and any other resources provided, to deliver against a documented and prioritized project list. This includes ensuring deadlines are set and met. In addition, the person needs to update appropriate S+S staff on all new technically advancements available to them.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain web-based applications and tools.
• Maintain high level of technical knowledge regarding all coding languages used by S+S programs.
• Be able to work in a highly autonomous fashion.
• Manage day-to-day activity ensuring deadlines are set and met.
• Ability to manage fast paced work environments effectively.
• Maximize profitability by streamlining operations wherever possible.
• Work with staff from all S+S departments. Includes regular face-to-face communication and discussion of common projects.
Primary requirements:
• Have at least 3+ years object-oriented PHP5 coding experience
• Have at least 3+ years of Java/J2EE coding experience
• Have expertise coding standards-compliant HTML and CSS
• Have extensive experience with advanced JavaScript and JavaScript libraries
• Know how to produce efficient, well documented, and modular code
• Good troubleshooting and QA experience
• Have strong communication and organization skills
Secondary requirements:
• Experience with XHTML, AJAX, and XML
• Experience with cross-browser development (i.e. IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc…)
• Experience with Linux and Microsoft operating systems
• Experience with Mac operating system a plus
• Experience with Perl a plus
